Olivier Micol is Head of the Product Safety Unit (JUST.B.4) within the Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers (DG JUST) of the European Commission. In this role, he is responsible for EU policies and activities relating to product safety and the EU’s Rapid Alert System.
Mr. Micol joined the European Commission in 1996. He previously spent 12 years working on bilateral trade relations between the EU and Asia, including assignments in the Directorate-General for Trade and the EU Delegation in China. He subsequently spent seven years in consumer policy, serving as Deputy Head of the Consumer Strategy Unit and Head of the Financial Services and Redress Unit within DG JUST.
From 2016 until his move to product safety, he headed the Data Protection Unit within DG JUST, where his responsibilities included EU data protection rules, including the GDPR, and ensuring data protection considerations were respected across EU policies.
Mr. Micol also serves as an Ex-Officio Board Member of ICPHSO, representing the European Commission
